I remember with painful clarity my one year as a Girl Scout Brownie. Desperate for validation, I poured myself into my size 6X Brownie uniform and set about weekly humiliation, hoping for the successful completion of one task rewarded by a single badge to sew onto my too tight sash. (It bears mentioning my sister was fully decorated with badges on both sides which she wore proudly to school twice a week). After several failed attempts at spaghetti boiling, needlepoint, camping (I cried through the night) and perhaps most embarrassingly... swimming ... the organization nonetheless - albeit reluctantly - granted me passage into the Girl Scout family. I will never forget the ceremony - we stood in a line (me towering over the little brown teenies) and upon hearing our names would cross a bridge to the Girl Scout Leaders waiting for us on the other side. Though I failed to show up for the first Girl Scout meeting (my mother mercifully recognized I might be better suited to piano lessons) the joy of being invited into a community has stayed with me ever since.
At first glance, this site might appear to be about selling Brownies and in fact we do sell the BEST BROWNIES EVER IN THE HISTORY OF BROWNIES AND MAYBE EVEN THE HISTORY OF MAN (made with fresher than fresh organic eggs straight off a free range farm in Maryland). But in fact this site is about the Global Community of Human Kindness. Kindness toward our Earth...helping others....being mindful of what we do. Celebrating all who do the same with the products they make, the art they design and create and where and how they sell them.
